| Women's Dress Are knee length skirts appropriate for women to wear in the professional setting? What about on the weekends or travelling? |

| Depends mostly on what cities you'll be doing business in and what kind of professional setting. Probably certain cities you can wear anything, like Mumbai or Bangalore. Most women in India still dress quite modestly. Knee length skirts are not popular or stylish in India (at least not last year when I was there). Mid-calf would be more appropriate. That is just my opinion. |

| Even in the big cities, I think knee length skirts are going to stand out like a sore thumb. I will never forget the reaction of all the men hanging about when a couple of years ago, I saw a young Russian couple with the girl in a skirt just above the knee walking to the Fort Gate. I wouldn't give myself that tension if I were you! They had eyes on stalks and drooling at the mouth, literally!! This was the only time in nearly 8 years of living here that I have seen a woman wearing a knee length skirt amongst the foreign women travelling here. You could probably get away with longish Bermuda shorts in the Metros, but knee - length skirt, don't think so. Mid-calf would be o.k. as camelgirl suggests. Metros - more and more young women are dressing in a non-traditional Indian style, tops and jeans very popular. What does look nice is the kurta top with straight pants. All readily available here. If your job requires a skirt then go for longer style - salwar kameezes are now 'modern' in their designs and these are great too.
