Winter...in Jaipur?
It's gonna be my first time in India for the Winter season. Based in Jaipur for the majority of the time. But, I'm having some packing problems... because... after being in India only during its summer season (sweating like anything) I just CAN'T imagine it being cold there....especially in sunny Jaipur!
Will I need to being warm fleeces, socks, jumpers etc.. ? Does the temperature really drop down that much during Nov/ Dec/ Jan? Or is it a waste to be filling my bag with too many bulky things like jumpers?
Appreciate any winter packing tips

Couple layers should suit you just fine. Bring a good fleece (around polartec 100 should suffice) for most of the winters and protective thinner outer cover (non-insulated but windproof). Combined these will help if you're out really late in the night (say 12 - 2 am) in Dec/Jan. Stand alone the fleece should be perfect for colder nights and the cover for the rest of the time.
It does drop down to single digits in the night in dec/Jan - the days are perfect tee-shirt weather for visitors from the colder climes. It's the sudden drop in temperature that can catch you off guard sometimes.

The problem with winter in India is that while it isn't very cold by European/N. American standards, the buildings (not counting expensive hotels) are open to the outside and not heated, so the cold gets to you at night.
I've been in Delhi during a cold wave where it was 2C (35F), and it was just miserable indoors. The locals didn't mind, they reveled in the novelty of it. It helped them forget the memory of the other 10 months of year when it is so unpleasantly hot.
On other visits (still in winter) it wasn't cold at all, T-shirt weather, but of course the locals were all wrapped up in mufflers and caps and sweaters.

Hi berkeat,
Not a lot of heavy jackets are required ( I see that you are coming from ireland). But keep it in mind that there are hardly any centrally heated accommodations, so even in single digit it is the same temperature even inside the rooms.

November in New Delhi and Amritsar
Hey guys,
Just saw this thread. I'm packing now as we speak. I leave in a week and I've decided not to bring much clothing. I was going to go and buy some salwar kameez but maybe this isn't such a good idea.
Is it true that the high early Nov is 80 and low is 60s? That seems fairly comfortable.
Maybe I should bring fleece jacket anyway? I'd rather be hot than cold.

I imagine you are here already. I, too, was caught off guard. My biggest asset? Silk long underwear. Can put under cotton pants and makes a big difference.knit leggings- available in any women's shop for about rps 150 also does the trick. And yes, warm nightwear- unless you have another warm body next to you!

This year (so far) has been colder than previous ones but from my limited experience living in the US I think the 'chill' felt here has purely to do with bad insulation of our buildings and no heating systems. Still, winter gives us a chance to enjoy our chai and samosas ....
I am planning Jaipur this year in December. (Delhi-Agra-Shimla-Manali-Jaipur and Ajmer).
26th December 9:20am train to Jaipur from Delhi reaching at 2pm. 26th and 27th December jaipur site seeing and shopping.
28th December - Jaipur to Ajmer- 28th and 29th Ajmer site seeing and shopping
30th December early morning 5:30am train to bangalore reaching on 1st Jan. Please let me know if 2 days is needed in Jaipur and 2 days in Ajmer. My train back is on Sunday from Ajmer to is it a good idea to leave Ajmer on Saturday morning and take a train from Delhi to Bangalore vs. Ajmer to Bangalore since i heard there is nothing much to do in Ajmer so we dont want to be bored and stay for the sake of staying. Please advise

Also tell me Kurtas/Sarees (daily wears) really cheap in Jaipur. How much will it cost approx..want to plan budget accordingly. we are not booking our hotel in advance. We plan to book it once we reach Jaipur is it easy to get rooms there.

Jaipur has lots of things to see.Ajmer has the darga, Anasager and the fort/museum. Unless you are really interested in any of these, half a day should be enough to see the tourist attractions of Ajmer.
Spend 3 days in Jaipur and 1 day in Ajmer.
