What to wear in Taj Mahal, Jama Masjid, Jaipur, Kerala
Hi,
I will be in India in December. Is there a dress code at Taj Mahal, Jama Masjid (Old Delhi) or places in Jaipur for girls and guyz? Or will jeans/capris (knee-covering) with full sleeve tops be ok, especially for a girl? For that matter, what is acceptable in Munnar and Kumarakom in Kerala? Thanks. |

Why girl in bold - are you talking about a child and highlighted it to distinguish it from being about a woman? For details see this long running thread about women's clothing. ![]()

Umm... It's rather long, don't think that you don't have to read ALL of it.
![]() Just read that you'll be there in December, you might be wanting something a bit warmer in the North, depending on what sort of temperatures you're used to. Certainly at that time of year, the Delhi locals will be wearing wooly jumpers! |

If you want to feel 100% acceptable wherever you go, get a nice Salwar (pants) Kameez (tunic top). You won't have to think about your appearance anywhere, town or temple. They come in hundreds of patterns & can be found ready made all over India or if you have time, you can get one made up. They come with baggy pants or very tight legs pants called "churidar" (the Indian equivalent of tights but without the stretch).
They are very popular with all ages, all over India. And they are much more comfortable than jeans. At least I think so! ![]() |

Thanks camelgirl.
I have one salwar kameez. Will buy couple more and I should be set. Will carry a pair of jeans and cargo pants though! Might pair them up with some kurtis or other tops that I may find at the malls in Mumbai (my first stop and base). |
