What To Pack
Hi
We are travelling to India Jan/Feb and plan to visit Delhi, Bharatpur, Agra Bhandhavgargh, Mumbai and Goa. We are travelling mostly by train around India and staying in budget to mid range hotels on route. Having been to Goa last year, we took far too many clothes and had thought this year a couple of pairs of shorts and Tshirts etc would be enough but with travelling to different parts of India not sure what to take. Is it likely to be cold in any parts and would you recommend jackets, jumpers etc for any parts and also we were thinking about taking a sleeping bag with us for extra comfort on the trains and to use as extra warmth if required. Is this necessary? Thanks Lisa |

I'll be packing a small fleece sleeping bad w/ me when i leave for India at the end of this month. It was recomended b/c they are small and lightweight and also make a good pillow for when you are traveling by train.

everything is relative
We spent the first part of our honeymoon in North India (rajasthan, agra, delhi, jaipur, varanasi) in December 1997. It was 'unseasonally cold' according to the newspapers and people actually died from the cold acoording to the same sources.
Well during the day it was 12-15 degrees celsius. For us coming from the autumn/winter in Holland that meant T-shirt weather. In varanasi the Indians gathered around small fires in oildrums instead of taking a bath in the ganges. Unlike any other tourist we have pictures of the ganges in varanasi with nobody in it at all. At night we put on long torusers and a light sweater. Have Fun, Hans (off to India in 2 days )

In December I think even in Goa it get´s chilly in the night time , in the middle of night I freeze if I don´t have a woolen/fleece blanket or sleeping bag. When it comes to clothes, for Goa, a long-sleve t-shirt is usually enough, for me anyway..
Have a great trip! /t |

I know this is old but I had not even thought about the weather ...we are going to visit Agra for 2 nights then down to goa where I know it will be warm.
So does any one think its worth packing warm clothes or will we be alright in what we wear from the UK on the plane due to weight restrictions. (can just imagine us wearing all our warm clothes to save on packing weight - lol - family of mitchelin men ) |

When are you going to Agra?
if its anywhere in the summer region, u dont need to bring anything at all . Maybe you carry something light if the plane gets too cold but nothing beyond that. |

Ah , in which case bring some woolens. December is cold enough with temp's falling into the single digits.

Shanti Lodge at one end on the market or Taj View at the other...
not sure ...should we start with a posh hotel as we are ending up in Hampi or start at Shanti in Agra? might have to put it to the vote at home or maybe just make an executive decision. Any input apreciated. |
