Smile What to pack for Mid Feb to ~June

Hi, we'll be travelling to India for 3-4months, mid Feb to June...starting from coastal south, some inland, and up West coast to North, including Hamachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well...For up north in May and June (Hamachal pradesh, Uttarakhand), and inland areas in South, would very light summer clothes be ok - or to pack some warm clothes for day or night time as well?
It seems like weather at this time is too hot for even jeans? is that so?
thanks

Hi Sunnysideup;
My wife and I will also be travelling northern India Feb to May - a basically good time for travel depending on where you'll be. Watch out for May in Delhi and most everywhere else. It is VERY oppressively HOT and you'll not be wondering what to pack but what to unpack !Others will give you more information if you give them a slightly better clue of where you'll be and at what times.
I would like to give you one very useful bit of advice. Feb can still be quite chilly up north and you might well consider, should you ever feel the cold, buying yourself a warm, inexpensive, very readily available shawl. These make wonderful blankets for bed, travel, pillows, bus-seat cushions, back-rests etc. ( limited only to your immagination ). Just pick one up should the need arise.
Have a great trip.
Cheers

Jeans are 'way too hot in India for most of the year, and they're heavy and take too long to dry if the humidity is more than 50%.

February is hot in the South (it's always hot there) and by April, it's pretty hot in Delhi. The year I was there in June, it was 40C, and rained for 10 minutes every afternoon -- just enough to steam things up. You'll want to be in the mountains by March, where nights may still be cool enough for a shawl.

See the Packing Forum for what sort of clothing to bring.

thanks...we just got the tickets but will be in Rajahsthan Feb 8 for 2 weeks. Is it still chilly up there? how cold - what's the temparature like day time and night time? We don't want to pack too much just for this part of the trip but at the same time I tend to get cold easily, so just to be prepared. Thanks much for all the information and help.

i too am wondering the same thing, as i hope to be in india around the same time next year, except starting around march/april. as for packing light, to me that kind of seems like a bad idea if you're going to be all the way up around Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. I have some camping experience here in the states, in mountainous areas, and once the sun goes down it tends to get pretty chilly, even in the summer. But i can understand you're hesitance as to taking lots of clothing and gear, especially if it just ends up being hot as hell and you wouldnt even need it. As for me, I figuire i will just take a winter sleeping bag and perhaps a jacket in case, and leave actual "warm" things back here for the most part. But not sure just yet. Sorry, i have no first hand experience over there; pure speculation. Let us know how your set up works.
