What footwear?

Firstly Happy New Year from a wet and cold Scotland!!

So what do you all mostly wear on your feet when in India then? I am going to buy some of those open sandals, but wondering whether i also need to bring trainers as well as my hiking boots (going to Nepal as well). Do people wear sandals all day or change into trainers/shoes in the evening?

Cheers.

The ordinary Indian wears ordinary shoes, cheap, you can get a really good pair for Rs500. Some westerners swear by Flip Flops (Vietnamese motorcycle boots), some wear Birkenstocks or similar. Trainers would be OK but I would change into shoes in the evening if I was going somewhere where I wanted to look a bit more upmarket. Its up to you, wear whatever is comfortable because you will be walking miles every day!

Note if you're wearing Bikenstocks - wear them in long enough before you go to India for your feet to heal! I've been breaking mine in over the last couple of weeks and got a huge blister on the ball of my foot. It's ok over here because I don't walk around -that- much anyway (still working in an office 8 hours a day) but I'm very glad it didn't happen while I'm over there!

India & Nepal

Hey!

I don't have much to say about footwear, because I am about to take my first trip to India (first trip anywhere other than England really). I'm bringing a pair of sandals and a pair of walking boots.

I am travelling to India and Nepal starting January 12, and I'm going solo also. I am going to be in different parts of India than you will be (Mumbai, Goa, Dharamsala) but I am going to Kathmandu too. I was just wondering when you would be heading to Nepal.

Let me know if you would like to meet and exchange stories.

Andrew
