wedding clothing
Hi! I'm new to this web site and making my first trip to India in December. My friend and I are invited to a wedding and would like to know what to wear. From what I've read a sari or a salwar kameez is traditional. Can anyone give me more info about this? Such as, where we can purchase this, approximate cost and what would be appropriate. We don't want to offend anyone by showing up in the wrong clothes. We are both female, in our late 30's from the U.S. (if that makes a difference). The wedding is in the Delhi area.

You'll find some great posts on this forum about weddings and what to wear, gifts etc.
From my limited experience the women wear their most colourful saree with maximum bling factor jewellery, and the men look like they've just popped in from the office on the way home. Anything smart will do though. Buying a saree is easy .... wrapping and draping one is an art form ..... so get a pre-formed, stiched one. Plan for a long day - and to be introduced to more people than you have met in your life to date. Gifts of money should be XXX1 Rs, e.g 1001 Rs and put in a fancy envelope. I turned up like a typical Brit with a tea set wrapped in a posh box .... I think they are still wondering why! And don't forget your camera. |
