Question visa or master card in Shimla?

Which card is more usual in this part of the world? Does the ATM's take both types of cards? Are there a lot of ATM's around?

Please help me cuz I heard so many different opinions in this matter...

Jempoloni, 90% of the ATMs will accept both Visa and Master Card. The ATMs you will find most anywhere in India will be of ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI Bank, UTI Bank. All these banks will accept both the cards. BTW, do you have the credit card or the debit card?
It would be better if you browse through the website to get the FAQs answered !
http://icicibank.com/
http://www.utibank.com/
http://hdfcbank.com/personal/default.htm
http://www.statebankofindia.com/

I suggest you to use the ATM locater to get the complete address.

Thanx for the info zzzehar! Those websites were very informative and now I know exactly where to go when I'm out of cash
To answer your question, I have a visa debit card now but I will get another one for my travelling.

I'd always take with me a Visa AND a master card debit card. One of both will nearly always work. Additionally I also take a visa credit card for when no of the debit cards work. But I use the credit card as rarely as possible at ATMs, because the fee costs much more than with the debit cards...
If you want to be even more save, take a small amount in travellers cheques as a last resort in an emergency.

Question ATMs location

Ive one debit card with Maestro and one Visa Electron. But I am wondering if travellers checks are a better option outside main city centers?

Ive no idea what to expect in terms of tourist develpment in the places I am planning to visit (my own fault ....I want to avoid over commercialized spots!). I will be a Cerai Beach and Fort Cochin, Kannur and Srirangapatna, Karnataka. I dont want to make special trips to business centers just to access ATMs unless absolutely necessary. Am I more likely to find a place to change travellers checks in these smaller centers than an ATM?
