Sorry if this sounds like a totally dumb question, but do you think I should pack an umbrella for visting India during monsoon?? Generally I hate umbrellas and over here will just stick my hood up or something instead - but obviously in India I wont be wearing water-proof type clothing. Also, with it being humid will the sun dry me out again or will I just be damp all day?! (not pleasant!!). Thanks in advance for your advice :-)

If you plan not to use a raincoat or other waterproof clothing, then an umbrella is a must in monsoon. An umbrella may not offer total protection from the rain, but it does help in keeping the upper part of the body, particularly the head, dry.

yes- much easier than putting on and off and on and off your raincoat, and in the heat, you won't want any more clothing than necessary. Also, it's a sunscreen too!

Are umbrellas easy & cheap to come by in India then or would I be better to bring one from home? Also, do they sell the little fold-away ones in India? - Don't want to be lugging a huge umbrella around with me! Thanks.

Umbrellas are available throughout the India (from metros to small places) The avarage price is Rs 100-150/-. All types of umbrellas are there. From the long one to the small three fold one. Automatic to manual.
