trekking poles in carry-on baggage
I plan to pack only carry-on baggage with me for a first-time two month trip to India. In my overhead bag, I want to bring my collapsible trekking poles (rubber covers over the carbide tips). I'll spend part of my time in HP.
Does anyone know whether trekking poles are allowed in carry-on bags? I'm hoping NOT to have to check baggage and wonder if the poles are allowed in the cabin. I will probably also call the airline, but would appreciate any ideas from those of you who've traveled to India before. |

On your journey to India, it depends on your airline. I have seen some airline websites that say they are not allowed, so contact them and if they say yes make sure you get it in writing.
On your return journey, it depends on your airline AND on the security staff at the Indian airport - you stand more of a risk of having them confiscated, and a letter from your airline is highly unlikely to have any effect on their decision. Maybe if you do get the okay to take them over, you could just wrap them in plastic / duct tape and check them into the hold for the return journey?
