Trek boots/sleeping bag needed for Gangotri in April?

Hi guys,

I hope to spend some time in Rishikesh from middle of April, including a Gangotri trek. From there I will likely go to McLeod Ganj, may also do some light trekking in Himachal Pradesh.

Seeing as i will be travelling up from Goa-Mumbai-Rajashtan, I was wondering whether I should pack my hiking boots and/or a sleeping bag for Gangotri, etc?

Given how hot it's going to be in the plains ideally I would leave them behind and just use my converse boots/good sandals - but is this advisable (I don't have lightweight trekking shoes and as I'm size 13 wouldn't be able to buy them over there).

Have no idea how rough the terrain will be, or indeed if it will be very cold, so any pointers very much appreciated.

I guess you can choose a desert waterproof trekking shoes. There are quite of those type avail in army boot style. But they are a bit heavy. At the moment decathlon has some for your needs. Just google for that.

First of all It will be very difficult to find size 13 here in India. Even decathalon does not stock size 13.

I would suggest that you get your shoes from Scotland and look for a sleeping bag here. I think Rishikesh and gangotri both have a few places that stock camping equipment

No need to trek upto Gangotri...the road till Gangotri is motorable.

Thanks for the tips guys - much appreciated...gonna bring the shoes but might ditch the sleeping bag...someone recommeded bringing a light duvet cover for the plains, and i can pick up a bag for the trek as you say...cheers!

Ps - even if motorable, you can still trek up there right? Kinda more interested in the journey than what's at the end...

The road till Gangotri is motorable for sure, still, lots of snow there. One would definately require atleast good waterproof high ankle shoes there.
