Travellers cheques

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm confused!

What kind of travellers cheques should I take with me to India?
I'm presuming GB Pounds or US Dollars.
Does it make a difference?

Apparently you need to take Amex or Thomas Cook for best coverage. I was looking at Travelex online, who own Thomas Cook and claim they'll beat any exchange rate Travellers' Cheques are something else.
I went into my local Thos Cook and enquired About TCs. You can buy £2000 max. If you pay cash, no ID required. Commission - Dollar, NO commission, Sterling 2% I said "I don't want the $ as it's continuing to fall"
Silly cow said, "no it's gone up" I said "I don't think so" She said, "I've been in this for 15 years" I said, "I've been in the City for 35 years"
If a currency is weak, then you get more of it for your £ or whatever.
Today the $ touched all time lows against the Euro. Currently 1.31471
I went into Halifax(Bank of Scotland) and they want 1.5% for £ and Zero for $. Natwest want 1%, Zero for $ or zero if you have an Advantage acccount with them. So it looks like they'll have your pants down on the exchange rate wherever you go.
Personally I will pay 1% max and stick with £sterling. I think the dollar will go lower over the following months.
I am now going searching for better deals..........see you later if I find anything. Anyone else got anything?
THESE ARE NOT RECOMMENDATIONS TO TRADE.
MARKETS CAN GO DOWN AS WELL AS UP .

I've just found this http://www.uk-currency-exchange.co.uk/buy.htm
they say they don't charge commission, only a delivery fee. When I started the process it showed a £5 fee for £2000 in £TCs. I didn't go to the end. Unless there are any catches this looks good. In their Terms and Conditions they are owned by Travelex so I'm going looking further as Thomas Cook are as well

just phoned uk currency exchange and it's a £5 flat fee and they use Amex.
