| Thai Sailor trousers A very quick question. I am going to be in north India, Delhi, Varanasi, and Nepal for the next 3 months. I have several pairs of loose cotton Thai sailor trousers (worn with T shirts). These are lose and comfortable but I have never seen any other westerners wearing them. I was thinking of bringing a couple of pairs. Are they acceptable, or will I want to dump them as soon as I get there as they are considered odd and not be acceptable? Thanks in anticipation |

| Why don't you just bring normal trousers like most other people? |

| this is Brad. He's cute | They're not considered odd, but I have it on good authority that they are women's apparel in India, or seen as women's apparel, coz Indians don't wear them. A lot of Israelis wear them, and people with dreadlocks. I'm not taking the piss, really they do. The choice of course, is up to you. You may take to Indian clothing, it really is very beautiful. But like Indi said, clothes are cheap and plentiful here. Normal pants are more comfortable.

| Thanks. I am a 54 year old UK female,no dreadlocks or any stuff like that. I do have "normal" trousers, but as the Thai ones are looser they are easier to wear a money belt underneath. maybe one pair! |

| It really doesn't matter to anyone what you wear exactly, so long as you are comfortable with it. Initially I thought you were a man, wanting to wear those, and what you describe are often called "harem pants" over here! Just refers to a possible mid-east influence! |

| this is Brad. He's cute | They're really different to Harem pants. They're called Vietnamese fisherman's pants in my neck of the woods. No-one will care if you wear them. Maybe bring a pair and see?. It's just that , from my experience, you might well ditch them for something more "indian" quite quickly. |

| "Fisherman's pants" very comfy. I dont't think any one will notice them, a lot of Indian women wear a similar version, I think they call them "Kurta Pyjama". Would have asked the Mrs she has a pair but she is fast asleep. Wore the fisherman's pants myself when in Thailand, they are made of cotton very good in the hot weather and no need to iron. |

| A cotton salwar kameez dress would do well anywhere in India. The salwar or pyjami can be styled differently - baggy or skin fitting, depending on trends and taste. |
