If you are worried about ATMs eating a card take it inside a bank. Its a time warp but risk less. For travellers checks note the fine print. Drop 'em in the back seat of taxi or put them in check in luggage and it may be kiss the brass monkey time. I take a few since electricty isn't universal..

Sorry everyone.. it is illegal to bring rupee to india!!!??? Really i'm really shocked! Absolutely. Are we talking abt a subtantial amount?

We are talking about any amount. The Rupee is not a fully convertible currency for the rest of the world to trade. This is the decision of the government, but i you want explanation then someone much more clued-up in economics than me will have to give it!
