VLCC

--- Very Large Crude Carrier.

I always imagine this bloody great ship farting its way accross oceans.

But you probably didn't actually want that insight into my mental process

and OBO is an Ore/bulk/oil vessel. Not as big as a VLCC, the one I was on carried about 200,000 tonnes of cargo, fuel and water etc, max.

Sigh...I still remember the excruciating boredom of slow-steaming across the Atlantic (at about 5 knots, to save fuel and because the value of the crude cargo was fluctuating) in the late 70's on a 275,000 dwt tonne tanker. When I got back I endured all the "seen the world, then?" comments with a wry smile - all I'd seen in five months was an offshore oil terminal in Saudi and an anchorage 60 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico.

Sorry....OFF TOPIC. Er, yes, we also had bluetack then as well!

Phew! successfully piloted back to the blutack

AN remember the old Hollywood-Musical song...

We joined the navy,
To see the world!
And what did we see?
We saw the sea!

Was it a Fred Astaire movie? I forget?

Museum putty is sold all over the world .... gotta be close to the same stuff(maybe a little less tacky) - just a little tweak on the sales pitch/marketing.

Alternatives to Blutack in Germany

After some research:

In Germany you can buy "Patafix" made by UHU, sounds very similar to Blutack...

Alternatives would be "Haftfix" by Aurednik or

"On and Off Multifix" by Pritt...

So now all German IMers in India should know how to fix their mobile chargers next time

Hi folks
Actually there´s a similar product to Bluetack available in India.
Back when I was living in Bangalore, I used to buy it for glueing my deities' sringar (earrings, crowns ,etc... on hindu "idols"). I usually find it in stores who sold puja itens/deity jewellery (most of them sells jewellery for dance and wedding as well), but I´ve found in a couple of hardware stores too.... Don´t remember the name of this grey goo though...

Great topic,

I'm loving the cultural differences. Although I remember my student daze where using Blu-Tack was prohibited by my university from being used in my room (the fascists!).

A little off topic.. But, who's heard of the 'brillo pad'? Only none Brits may reply, {not that its got much to do with India or traveling}.
