Sleeping bag ? Warm Clothes ?
Hi Guys,
I need a little packing advice, I am travelling with my husband to India (below is our plan) and I need to know what type of clothing to take, I also need to know if I need a sleeping bag (padded type) or if a silk sleeping bag (just a sheet). We are travelling on two overnight trains, both are sleeper class so I am aware that bedding is not provided. Will it be cold at night ? (what is cold ?) I am confussed at people saying it is cold when I am used to english weather, surely I will feel hot ! Also, do you think our plan is ok ? Does it seem sensible ? Monday 9th June Arrive early morning 03:30 Taxi into New Delhi arrive 05:30 Day in Delhi Tuesday 10th June Day in Delhi Wednesday 11th June Day in Delhi Travel to Lucknow overnight train 2230A dep 22:30 Thursday 12th June arr in Lucknow 07:15 Friday 13th June Day in Lucknow Saturday 14th June Travel to Varanasi 0414 dep 08:05 arr 12:30 Sunday 15th June travel to Agra on overnight train 2395 dep 22:52 Monday 16th June arr in Agra 07:35 Day in Agra Tuesday 17th June Day in Agra Wednesday 18th June Day in Agra Thursday 19th June Travel to Jaipur 2395 dep 07:40 arr 13:25 Friday 20th June Day in Jaipur Saturday 21st June Day in Jaipur, leave in evening 2413 dep 16:35 arr 22:05 Sunday 22nd June Day in Delhi Monday 23rd June Must be at Airport 02:00 |

It's going to be hot in the day for all those places you're going to Davehelen - June is probably the hottest of all months for there. If you're going sleeper class - i suppose a very lightweight sleeping bag may be useful but I'm inclined to think just the sheet with your normal clothes may be enough. One of those very light polar fleece blankets might give additional warmth. You certainly won't be needing 'warm' clothes. Summer cottons will suffice.

I agree with Aishah,
June is about as hot as it gets. Traveling AC trains may-will chill you. I found for warmth all I needed was a shawl - lots to chose from, makes a great gift if you don't keep it for yourself at the end of the trip. After five trips, I have five of them now. Enjoy.

and vote number 3 for June being a hot month! Chances are you'll be more worried about how to keep cool, as opposed to how to keep warm. Its only when you're in air conditioning (hotels, trains, etc - which can be quite fierce) that you need to worry about keeping warm.
