Sleeping bag in southern India?
Hi -
I am due to visit southern India next week however I am having a bit of a problem packing as I cannot fit my sleeping bag in! My question is - will I need one this time of year? If I take an inflatable roll mat, a pillow and a sleeping bag liner and wear a hoodie in bed if it gets cold, will this be enough? I am visiting Chennai, Cochin, Munnar, Allepey, Kollam, Varkala, and then finally 10 days in Maduari. Any advice much appriciated! |

thinking about the temperatures and humidity I don't think there is the need for a sleeping bag. Just the idea of it makes me sweat already.
Probably every cover will be too much. But if it is mostly for hygienic reasons you could take a bed tick instead(don't know if this is the right word for it ) made of a very light cotton material and you can use it as sleeping bag. It doesn't take up much space and probably comes in handy. |

Leave your sleeping bag at home! You won't need it! The sleeping bag liner will be enough. You can still buy your own bed sheet there if you feel you need something more. If you want to save space: either use an inflatable pillow or you can use a fleece jacket in a pillow cover as a pillow. The only place where it will be cooler is Munnar where you might need a jacket in the evening.
Just out of curiosity. why do you want to take the inflatable mat? |

Tilly, I guess you will have been and gone to India by now but for anyone else from the UK reading you can pick up a cotton sleeping sack from any decent camping store. They're specially treated to prevent against bed bugs and other insects and are supposed to prevent against the growth of bacteria so it's fine if you aren't able to wash it regularly. Mine cost £15 and it folds up really small, it's brilliant!
