More retro charm : the Optimus Climber stove , unchanged model for 100 years (except for the rinse needle) , 550 grams , all brass, 1 liter pot

Ligtning, have you tried making a stove from cans? Difficult? How strong & durable is it?

Dakota,
no -I just ran across the web report From that and other experience making things I would say it's perfectly serviceable and not difficult. Aside from ensuring the araldite joins are good, all you need to worry about is making even holes for the 'wick' to get a regular flame. You might have to protect it from squashing in your pack (ie keep it in a mug). It's a fairly close replica of the trangia meths burner. I'm a trangia user (yo vistet!), so havn't needed to improvise in this department (yet) why not mail the author of the report, I'm sure he would be happy to answer questions. :-) |

I am SOLD to Trangia now! It would be nice to have one like that IF I go climbing again....who knows? It has been such a long while since I used anything close to imported stoves like this - ve forgotten how they work.
I like the Trangia design - it is brilliant. I will come back to this post for some design ideas when I am ready for one... |
