Well that's true too... but I do know what he means - in the western context. Everyone knows that in reality men are Much more vain than women - just go shopping for clothes with one!

I agree with Oyar on this one:

All the guys I know living in Mumbai & who are ~Puchoo's age feel the same way he does:

i wear shorts all the time and find them the best fit to a dash to the ATM , shopping with the wife, lazing around and even going to a few places to eat as well. And while i agree that my legs might not be sexy , i dont think its that 'big a deal'... Its not very uncommon at all.

I think people under 30 or so get away with a lot more, sartorially speaking, in India. For instance, I found all this business about the 'modest' drape of a dupatta to be moot when I was actually in India -- Indian women my age wear their dupatta any old way they want, if they even bother to wear one at all. And, yes, young Indians mix traditional and western clothing, and younger Indian guys sometimes wear shorts in casual contexts.

And, of course, young foreign backpackers seem to pay no attention to any of this stuff. I should have gotten a picture of the Israeli girls in bikini tops and miniskirts standing next to signs requesting that foreigners dress respectfully in Hampi...

I always think of those perfectly ironic pictures after the fact too.

Yeah I remember that!!! On my first day in Paris, I was walking down the Champs elysees, and I had a hollister polo, hollister jeans (destroyed), and rainbow sandals on, with a hat and aviator sunglasses. And the amount of people that stared me down was like WOW.

Thank god I'm in India --- where people really aren't too fussed what you wear!

Actually after saying that I remembered that today I happen to be wearing a ratty old Hollister t-shirt I 'borrowed' from my brother. But it's under a sweater, and it's laundry day, and aside from running out to pick up a few groceries earlier I haven't actually left the house like this.

So my comment still stands.

It's a Californian clothing company that specializes in selling very expensive clothes that look like something the worst beggar in the worst slums in India wouldn't wear.

The t-shirts are very comfy for sleeping in, though.
