Shorts In India
We will be in india for 6 weeks leaving shortly, am wondering if I should bother even packing ANY shorts at all for my husband and myself, we will be traveling in Mumbai,Goa,Rajasthan,Delhi
Varanasi and Kerela. Are tourist looked upon negatively for wearing shorts, if so I will not wear them as I will feel to self conscious. Any suggestions appreciated. |

There is no point taking shorts, unless you are spending time on the beach in Goa, or in the gym. You will stick out like the proverbial 'sore thumb' and attract much unwanted and negative attention. I can think of NO positive reason for wearing shorts on your trip to the places that you mention. Far better to cover up the same bits of your body that the locals do. Apart from the beach and the gym, none of them will be wearing shorts, that's for sure !!

Pack shorts! India is warm for Canucks - even in the north in winter at times. You probably shouldn't vist the local Mosque or other holy shrines in them .... but tasteful, well groomed shorts are almost transparent in India these days and a welcomed part of a travelling wardrobe for northern peoples!

I'll go with Tim. People will tell you privately it offends and I don't travel to stuff my culture up someone elses's nose. Maybe, that is why I don't believe in casual tourism..

Even if you are not a sporty person, or don't go to the beach, or will not go on tiger safari (everybody was in shorts on my tours - in Rajasthan it was 40c degrees - in the shade!!!
) - then just throw a pair in your luggage to lounge around in at your hotel - safer than undies cause Indian hotel employees are numerous and always dropping in unexpected ..... knock, knock excuse me sir lightbulb changing maintenance.![]() |

Its not like I have to wear shorts, its just that is what we are accustom to wearing in warm places, will take only 1 pair each for beach and gym, thanks for the great advice Tim
