Shorts
Hi there
Personally I think shorts in a temple or mosque is inappropriate, I certainly wouldn't enter a church in England or any other country for that matter wearing only shorts. But then I don't like to see men in shorts in restaurants either so maybe I'm a bit old fashioned. Whatever you do, enjoy your visit ![]()

I'm with Kathy.
When I was in Kerala this winter a friend who lived there(Vellanad near Trivandrum)often wear shorts while working in the office of a ONG and the other people treated him like a..."little boy" because in India only children wear shorts.... ![]()

Shorts won't be ok for the Jama Majid in Delhi ( I witness it in July this year). But don't worry, the people at the entrance gate will give you the necessary cloth.

Yes, it will offend whether anyone would actually complain is another issue. It depends on how much respect you have for the local population. A lot of tourists just see the local inhabitants as getting in the way of a cheap holiday..

Hi
Shorts are becoming more and more acceptable in big metros even for girls. So I do not think there is any problem. Though it is a good idea to avoid it for visiting religious places.

I saw lots of Indian men wearing shorts all the time, so I am going to wear shorts. Infact I've got these zip off trousers, which are shorts most of the time. Can carry the bottoms if people give me a hard time.

Not OK in many Kerala temples. Even trousers are taboo. You have to wear the mundu.

why don't you buy a pair of hiking pants that convert into shorts when needed?

If you're talking board shorts then its no problem. If you're talking short shorts then you'll be wary of the fashion police if nothing else.
