How easy or difficult is it to buy 'pretty' sandals in India? (beaded flip-flops or similar). I plan only to take my walking shoes & hiking sandals with me but it means that if for any reason I need to be 'smart' or want to wear a sari my footwear will look ridiculous. Do I need to pack nice sandals on the off-chance or will I find them easily enough over there?? Thanks!!

It is very easy to buy sandals in India. (costs Rs50/= to Rs 1000/=) depending upon the quality and from where you are buying. You will find sandals in the footpath/street shops to big branded shops. Most women in India wears sandals so I think you will definitely find something nice for you. Caution - if you wear big size then you will have to search for that bcoz average size of ladies sandals is 2- 5 (BATA size).

mercedes, i would like to warn you, it is better if you have sandals with you that you have already WORN, otherwise if you try wearing a pair of new ones you'll end up with bad feet... Indian sandals are pretty and cheap but they require some breaking in.
i always take a pair of tried sandals with me, not to tempt the fate. and you can always buy new ones if you see a pair you like. v-v edit: of course if you only plan to wear sandals for an hour or so a time then this shouldn't be a problem. but i find myself wearing sandals, and sandals only, when i am on the sub-continent, because they are breathable, easy to wash and that's what the rest of pop'n wears...

Thanks everyone!
70s hippy - thanks for the images - those sandals look great! & what a bargain! Will I find the equivalent of a UK size 6 OK? Volga - yes, good advice, though I wouldn't expect to wear them regularly so they'd probably be OK as a one-off. I do have comfy sandals with me (they're just not very attractive!) |

The images look great and the design of it awesome! But to have many pair of shoes for different occasion just seem like too redundant for a guy like me..
A pair of hiking shoe is all I bring... |
