Shoes - North India in December
I'll be in Delhi, Jaipur, Agra and Kolkata first half of December. I've read archived threads on shoes vs sandals, benefits of easy on/off of sandals, etc. Seems to me that good support and protecting your feet trumps easy on and off.
Anyone have any thoughts on water shoe/running shoe/trainer hybrids like the following: http://www.merrellboot.com/Product/N...tra-Sport.aspx Seems u could wear these w/o socks and enjoy reasonably cool feet, but still have decent protection for your feet. I'll be doing a lot of photography and exploring so will be walking a lot. These shoes are a bit freaky looking and I don't wanna look like an idiot western tourist wearing goofy hi tech shoes, but... Thanks! |

There are also many Indians wearing goofy hi tech shoes, mainly the men but in Delhi you will see some women wearing them too. Go with what is most comfortable with you - I have mentioned in a previous thread I always wear socks as a protection from dust and grit even in very hot times. You can wear socks in December anywhere except South india I should think.

I've tried everything and always come back to a good pair of flip-flops. Lets face it, they are on and off so many times in a day.
Cool and comfy - cheapest and best unless it is cold or you are trekking. |

Those look very comfortable; I'd be tempted if they came in my size, as they look great for walking around the city.
If you find they don't work for you, you can always buy a pair of sandals in India. Yes, winter in Delhi can be quite cold at night, but the on & off would be a real PITA for me. I'd forgotten about that when I went to Japan and I was always looking for somewhere to sit so I could tie my shoes. |

Those shoes are a little sci-fi for India I must say. I suppose you might get some attention for them. Like how much did you pay? etc.
There's lot's of good walking shoes available in the states that are more neutral in color and style. You might consider just a good plain leather walking shoe. But do what you want! |

You will not feel like an alien walking in those shoes. Unless one really notices them very minutely they look like any common sneakers available in nike etc in India. No one bats an eyelid at them.
