It is also good to keep in mind that some places of worship require you to leave everything, including shoes, but the clothes on your back behind. This includes leaving backpacks, cameras, etc.. And Nick-H is right, just because you may be able to get away with it, does not mean you should do it. Be respectful. If you cannot be, then just do not go. You can still view the buildings from the outside.

socks
I did not realise that I would also have to remove socks to visit Temples. Thanks for the advice.

Actually I don't think you have to take socks off. But your original post was a little ambiguous - it looked like you were saying you could keep the Crocs on in temples.

Sock or Feet
It'll be so hot and humid in most parts of India, I doubt if you'd want to wear socks at all. Although some people don't really like to slop around with bare feet or sandals.

This is also one of my quandires.....
And I'm glad to know that I am not the only one obsessing about this. My mother has been drilling me about how her friends that went to India told her to tell me not to wear open-toed shoes. She is adamant about this (you know mothers). Personally, I am bringing some flip flops, my sketchers brand mesh Mary Jane tennies, and one pair of flats. I will buy something else over there for cheap if I require anything else.

Converse?
Hmm... I think I'll be getting some fairly decent-soled sandals for general use but I know there'll be times where I'll want closed shoesI pretty much live in my ratty old converse at home, and they don't take up much space and are eternally comfy- would it be a bad idea just to take these and the sandals?
Aahh, I am a creature of habit... ![]() |

If I need any close toes shoes I'll get them at the bazaars there. Cheers! |
