Several packing alternatives

Hi all! I'm leaving for a three-weeks trip through Delhi-Agra-Varanasi-Rajasthan (including overnight in the Thar Desert) in March, using only trains (1-, 2- or 3- AC) or buses, planning to walk a lot.
Could you indicate to me the best options in the following list?

1. Backpack or trolley?
2. Sandals or runnig shoes?
3. Sleeping bag (summer type) or sheet bag?
4. T-shirts or long sleeves?
5. Cotton or wool?
6. Bring clothes from home or buy suitable (and cheap) local clothes?

In general: stuff to fight heat or cold? Or both?

Thank you for your help!

Gianni

we did a similar trip + mumbai and ajanta in 16 days in January and this is what we took:
1. lowe alpine backpack (40 liters) is more than adequate .... no places really to roll
2. teva sandals + gortex or wool sox .... served us fine even in the cold desert
3. summer sleeping bag ... useful on trains and you know where it's been
4. 1 dryclime synthetic long sleeve (wicks moisture and warm and quick to dry) 1-2 performance t-shirts (synthetic) .... buy rest on the road
5. synthetic ... quicker to dry after washing, harder to find in India
6. light gore-tex jacket or fleece, ear plug, favorite hat / sunglasses from home, everthing else locally

in general: fight heat - march should be okay up north, vapor rub and water works for me; fight cold - wool blanket we bought in India, and TheruFlu (combination of acetaminopen, pseduoepedrine, dihydramine)
