Sending back excess baggage

Seeing our allowance is only 23kg, we will definitely be overweight on our way back after a few months traveling.

Whats the best way of getting things back to the UK other than paying the hefty excess baggage fees per kg with your airline?

I always sent my excess home via the post office, though there are many international carriers available, UPS/Fed Ex/Etc . . .

Hi,
One alternative is to see if your airline will do unacompanied baggage. On my first trip back I had an extra 25-30 kg and sent it with the same airline I flew back with, it came the day after me. Worked out a lot cheaper than DHL and any other similar carrier I could find in India. It needs to be dropped off at the cargo section at the airport and its a reasonably lengthy process (1-2 hrs) but thats just the standard fare for India.

Most airlines from India back to UK allow an extra 10kg,its not on your ticket so I was unaware till a fellow traveller told me on the way out.Check with your airline, every little bit helps.
Have a great trip.

I second this advice. I found that even though my e-tickets showed 23kg the airline applied a 30kg limit. Also consider leaving behind your old clothes for the needy.

Moving around the world

Hey Travellers, I'm from the UK and have been travelling for over a year. My next planned stop is India and I can't wait. I researched heaps and this is a great website. I have used a company called Seven Seas Worldwide to ship my belongings. They are so affordable and the service is great. Free boxes and door to door delivery. I have already checked out that Seven Seas have offices in India for my shopping!!
Hope this helps.
Happy and safe travels, Lil Kate

If it is not stuff you are worried about getting there quickly, sea mail takes about three months but it is very cheap.

sea mail....

As far as our post office is concerned sea mail is no longer available. The indiapost.gov.in seems to confirm it - if you can manage to read the scrolling message that mentions sea mail. ("Sea Mail parcel service discontinued from Jan 2009. But other Sea Mail services - letters and Bulk Bag - are not discontinued.") If anyone knows what Bulk Bag is ... do let me know!

So think that SAL (Sea Air Lifted) might work out cheapest, but not sure if there is a maximum weight on that.
