Wow!, well this depends on where you are - in India I mean!!

Most of the tailors on any main road, or side street will run up a Salwar Kameez in next to no time at all. If you don't like the very tight sleeves that most Indian women seem to prefer, it's best to measure how tight you want them in the tailors shop yourself and jot down the measurments....just tellhim with a smile that you don't like tight sleeves. Same goes for the Pants...at the ankle - if you don't like them too tight, make sure you say so!!

Well then, you won't be short of tailors in Delhi, I can assure you. Long as you remember what I put below, you'll be fine!

Mind you, you'll be able to take your pick from thousands of differently coloured/styled ready-to-wear Salwar Kameez jumping out at you from every other shop!- they've got all sizes ! I guess this is your first time in India? If so - have a great time!

No problem at all to find Salwar Kameez. I used to worry prior to going to India but they are easy to find and just lovely. Just land safely and go out for shopping.

Ah, the Great Female Dress Question! So much more interesting than the Great Drugs Question

Thing is that (with perhaps one exception*) the local clothes are made to suit the local climate, as well as the local 'rules' about what to show and what not to show. Added to which they are elegant and beautiful.

But don't worry too much about dress... as long as you're not too immodest just be relaxed

Immodest by Indian standards, that is, and conservative standards, not the college-girls-in-Mumbai standards.

isn't the trend in india "ready made" garments instead of going to a tailor?

It's difficult to go back to ready-made once you've lived in custom tailored!

Tayloring in India is so cheap: why bother with off-the-peg.

Even readymades often come in one size ---take to taylor to alter!
