Running: what to wear - not trackpants

hi all - have noted previous posts suggesting female runners run in trackpants rather than shorts, and haven't found any about male runners. Couple of questions to try to balance getting exercise without giving offence. Can male runner wear shorts and t-shirt [or singlet]. Could female runner wear longish running shorts [half way down thigh] and baggy t-shirt. Nothing flashy, believe me. Thought of running in trackpants is not v enticing.

cheers
Vicki

You can wear what you like..... within law.

bottom line is more skimpy you're attire the more tauts, jeers etc you will get. You decide.

During my holidays in India I don't think I ever saw people run for sport in public except maybe on the beach.

There are annual street half marathons in Delhi, see Airtel Delhi Half Marathon website. The photographs from past events show participants dressed for running marathons as elsewhere in the world but also others fully covered. I don't know where the serious runners train.

In which city town do you plan to run?

For males - shorts are ok.

For women(including your 16 yr old)-anything above the knee is not ok. Its either trackpants or calf length pants.

If you are running long, I hope you would be doing it early morning. By evening, there is lots of pollution on roads.

So during early morning, you should be OK with knee length shorts. People know that this is exercise time. But just give a thought that you should avoid doing anything which makes you different from crowd.

Yep.
Now if I see somebody running, I assume they're catching a bus.

thanks all, that's helpful

just trying to keep fit while away is all, so don't need to run every day, will just 'play it by ear' [and acquire some longer shorts]

husband on other hand is more compulsive runner, and glad to hear shorts ok

thanks !

In most residential areas of any metro, running as a form of exercise is the norm. In fact, I have seen many people up at 5:30am going for a walk around the park near my parents place in Hyderabad. It does feel odd when I see the women doing the "power walk" wearing sari though and sneakers

I really do not think there would be anything wrong for a foreign female to "jog" or "run" wearing typical western "shorts" that are common elsewhere. As long as there are other people around, like the "early morning walkers" say around 6 am, there should not be any problem. Just be "street-smart".

Cheers
