Replacing new shortwave with - new shortwave

ok, heres the score. i had a nice sony s/w and travelled with it for years. the antenna broke and i broke it further trying to repair the bloody thing.

i then splashed out for the sony ICF-SW35. its a great radio to be sure -but weighs a ton and sucks power like las vegas. i should have sent it back when it arrived -but just dealt with it. what a waste.

im now in process of skinny-ing down my pack even further and this monster has to go. ive got a friend who may want to buy it here in thailand (after i take it to lao and cambodia).

ok...so here is the question for all you other shortwave nutters - what brand/model am i after?? im partial to sony, but philips and grundig also have names. this appears to be my next purchase (the sw11):

ive also seen some small grundigs on the www that i could be in for. first criteria is good reception, second -two aa batteries.

there is a shortwave thread here and ive looked at it -but theres no concensus perhaps the Grundig Mini-World 100. id be up for trying a chinese sw at us20 if i can find one here in thailand -but i think im disappointed by cheap s/w. if you have to constantly fiddle with the dial and signal is forever fading -it is not worth a listen. further, thats more good money after bad if it is not what im after...

thanks for reconsidering the topic SHORTWAVE: Short-wave radio

You get what you pay for in this life - applies to SW receivers too. I've had various Sonys for years, and have been happy with them. If weight is a problem, have you seen the Sony ICF-SW100S:

Not much bigger than a pack of 10 cigarettes.

About 370-400 USD. Be careful about used purchases because early runs had a problem..
