Rajasthan & N India October - clothes, sleeping bag, etc??
Hi we are travelling in Rajastan & North India (Vanarasi, Lucknow, etc) in October until 9th November. We plan to stay in mid price hotels & travel on trains inc. overnight sleeper & may be air conditioned. A few pcking questions:
- is it worth taking a very very small / lightweight sleeping bag (for trains mainly but we might also do a desert trip) [we are taking a 'sheet bag' also]? - clothing - it seems we will have some hot days - but perhaps cool evenings - so I guess a light pull over and light jacket? - will it be too hot for a pair of jeans? - are shorts (for a man) a no no? - locks - we are taking back packs (not huge) - I have read about people taking combination locks & chains for train travel - I guess we just wrap the chain tightly around the pack & hope thats enough. Cheers |

Depends on the colour of your eyes I suppose!
For sleeping bags check this out Palmplus sleeping bag Pricey but they take up no room at all. |

If you travel A/C classes, the ticket includes a sheet, pillow (in a case), blanket and towel, so you really don't need a sleeping bag for the trains. And if, while you're travelling, you think you need something warm, buy a nice wool shawl and use it for a blanket. You can always give it to someone as a souvenir when you return home.
Take clothing you can layer .. and you can always use the aforementioned shawl as the top layer. I always take socks and silk "long underwear" (t-shirt and long pants); the silk keeps you toasty warm and takes up almost no space in your luggage. |

Thanks wonder woman! - when you say 'silk long underwear' you mean like we say over in the UK 'long johns'? (thermal underwear). Never seen silk ones - but perhaps I've led a sheltered life!!
Do you think I would need a sleeping bag in Sleeper Class? |
