Guys, don't read this - it takes all the glamour out of being a woman!!
Girls - what sort of bras are best for taking to wear in India? I was just planning on wearing sports bras (for those bumpy journeys! ) and maybe just a t shirt bra for a change as well. What have all you other girls done on your trip? Are 2 bras enough, then wash them frequently or should I pack some more ... ? Also (and even more important!) (and even more personal, so guys: shoo!) I know that there are fantastic beauty parlours in the big cities in India, but what is the situation with waxing? Not xxx waxing, just normal stuff like legs and underarms - is that commonly available? I can handle fuzzy legs, but 4 weeks with hairy armpits ... Advice, girls? F. PS <<-- Hey all you 80s kids ... remember Strawberry Shortcake? ![]()

bras:
sports bras are usually very tight and not good for wearing long time. also although they are designed to absorb sweat they are not ideal for walking/living in hot weather. don't bother, get something that you can confortably live whole day in. waxing: since I stayed in India for longer that four weeks I had to go through this torture u know what i mean yeah? could not wait till get back home. as Indian skin is rougher then caucasian be prepared for some rough experience.

"bras:

VV is right. Another thing, your bras will look like "waxing: since I stayed in India for longer that four weeks I had to go through this torture u know what i mean yeah? could not wait till get back home. as Indian skin is rougher then caucasian be prepared for some rough experience."I personally don't think Indian skin is rougher, but why don't you take a good dipilatory cream instead, or buy one in India. They have really effective ones there. Or at a push, a decent razor.

Wax before you go ..... and take a Venus Gillette Razor for emergencies.
As to bras ...... wear cotton ones. I would suggest taking 3. 1: wear 2: clean 3: wash You'll need to change them frequently, and 3 allows for good rotation! Pity Nick-H is off-line just now ..... I'd love to read his comments on this thread ![]()

Thanks for the advice girls - PRIYA, thing is, I've been waxing for aaaages now and if I have to start shaving again, ergh, it'll mean the hair comes out scratchy again!
I think I'll risk it and try my luck with a nice Indian beautician ![]() |

waxing
There are beauty parlors even in smaller Indian cities (at least, I saw the signs and they all advertised waxing). I just don't know if I would trust any waxing places in smaller towns. If you are in Delhi, try Blossoms in GK1. They were pretty good for a pedicure and haircut (it cost me about $12 for both when it costs me about $100 back home). I PREFER wearing sports bra in India. I disagree with other posts about sports bra being too tight. I got a Champion (M) and I wore it through warm/cold/hot weathers. Good luck.

I took sports bras also and would do the same again - just what you need for the bumpy roads and Judi's formula of wear/clean/wash is spot on. Don't know about waxing - I'm too scared to do it here, never mind India!

I also wear sports bras in India. I like them, they give me good support and they are good for long journeys on trains and busses.
As a matter of fact I just bought a couple of more to use for my journey in India starting December. As for waxing, I normally shave. it is very easy and doesn't require pain. I shave every morning in the showers and it only takes a couple on minutes. |

totally agree with bringing sports bras, bring 3 for 4 weeks (I actually got by with 2 bras for my month's stay). there are all different types of sports bras and if they are uncomfortable then you most likely have one that is not right for your size/body type. I used to be a fitness instructor so believe me, I know about sports bras!
as for waxing, do it before you go to india. why bother with the hassle of finding some place once you get there? Besides, in 4 weeks time it's not like you're going to come back with Wolfman pits and legs, are you? I am lucky as I have rather hairless armpits and legs (I shave my legs twice a year!), but I got my eyebrows waxed before I went.

Thanks girls,
Between this thread and another one. My packing will be easy . So to sum it up. 3 bras, two pairs of shoes (walking, sandles) and flip flops. One pair of jeans and t-shirt and then by several made to order SK. Do girls carry backpacks or purses?? I'm so excited, but having a problem waiting![]() larki55 |

Well! I don't have a thing to say on this ...except maybe that it is better to just let those hairs grow. I'm sure I heard something about the armpit ones having some function in helping disipate sweat/repel mosquitoes/prevent bedbugs/keep away cockroaches, or some such
![]() As to bras and camels, I'm afraid I don't even know how many humps the Indian ones have! The bra is a Western invention, of course, but as with so many thinigs I guess India got there first with the choli (is that the word?) and the sari blouse. But bras seem to get worn under sari blouses these days anyway. Anyway, I'll just go and take a cold shower now... ... ...

I've been told that it is best to bring non-white underwear as the dobbi wallahs will thrash/bleach the whites ones to try to get them ultra-white. Is this true?
