I'm about to go to India for a month or so of random travel, mainly alone. (I'm a late thirties European.) Having lived in Thailand and visited Vietnam several times, I recall the general public having a generally disdainful view of backpack travelers. I recall a generally better reception anytime I showed up in a place with briefcase and a suitcase rather than a backpack.
Any thoughts on how this applies to India? Many thanks! BTW, I'm new in IndiaMike.com but already _amazed_ at what I see! |

Perhaps the answer depends on exactly where in India you'd be testing this question; in places with a heavy number of backpackers you might be looked at with less-than-enthusiastic expressions, but in general I can't imagine how bad it could be, or why even the question matters. Just go with whatever works best for you and don't worry about what other people think when they see you. You can't please everyone, you know.
