Prescription Medications--Proof needed?

So... during one of my recent jaunts to the CDC's website, I have come across this little gem:

"Prescription medications: make sure you have enough to last during your trip, as well as a copy of the prescription(s) or letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you."

Enough to cover my trip: check.
Letter from healthcare provider or copy of prescription:

Is this truly needed? I did ask for a copy of the prescription upon my last refill at CVS and they denied the request saying that anyone can ask for a copy and then go to another pharmacy and get the same thing. (I guess for those folks that have RX paper stock on hand or something...) And it isnt like I was getting prescribed high narcotics or something... I guess you can overdose on the pill if you really tried, but I digress.

Anywhoo... is that really needed?

Thanks,
Mya

Unless it is the kind of controlled drug you could be arrested for carrying or bringing into the country, or unless you are bringing in such a quantity that they may suspect you are importing --- I should forget all about this.

Given that almost all drugs are available without prescription here...

i agree with the above. however, i nonetheless believe that merely having your name on the bottle suffices as "a copy of the prescription." if you're concerned about this, just be sure to take the pills in the original container, rather than in a generic pill case.

i pick up all sorts of meds for my various relatives when I go to India, and never need a script, and have never been hassled coming back to USA. I have done this at least 4 times in the last 5 years. dirt cheap, they are . . . .
tips and tricks:
1. check the packaging, and buy at a reputble place
2. have the real name of the drug, not the brand name. they are usually different overseas.
5. you are allowed 3 months supply to be imported into USA, but I was torn apart once in customs with a year's worth, and they said nothing at all when they found them. they were looking for kiddie porn, cus of my Cambodian visa!!!
