Smile Prescription glasses

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to buy good quality cheap prescription glasses, and if so where?
A couple of years ago I bought some great designer ones in Vietnam for about a 10th of the price I would pay in NZ. Would appreciate anyone's comments

Plenty of them. Vision Express, Titan Eye are a few that are present in many large cities.

You need to give the city you want them in and ideally a locality or area within the city.

You could probably get a pair for 4 or 500r's in a old worldy non-branded type shop up to 15 , 20,000r's plus for the latest euro frames, in a up market outlet. I always find something reasonable for less than 3000r's---prescription sunglasses are the real bargain, generally more than half price compared to Aust

In general, is there a long waiting time (i.e. more than 24 hours) until the lenses are ordered and fitted into frames, and then ready to be picked up?

Some places I've been to (not in India) it can be a few days to a full week, depending on the store/location - not even for anything super special, just ordinary lenses with antireflection etc. Wondering what it's like in India's bigger cities (i.e. the major tourist places)? Would love to get a couple of new pairs when I'm there...prices in Switzerland are pretty ridiculous too

I don't know about the bigger cities, but we do not get made-while-you-wait shops here. You probably need to have at least a week, or be returning to the same place later in your trip

Great, thanks, Nick-H! In that case, I'll plan on going in and ordering in Delhi when we arrive...we'll be there for a couple of days in the beginning and 1 or 2 right at the end.

Most places I have been to do it on a next day basis. You order it today any time and you pick up next day evening.

I thought it would vary from place to place.

I've found in chennai at least 2 to 3 days for clear lenses, sunglasses with different treatments up to a week----older shops might still have dad or grandad cutting and grinding out the back, but any of the modern shops send their work out to a lab or what ever.

Thanks, dcamrass1, I will do so. I'll visit the bigger stores in Delhi and order, so if it takes longer it won't be a probably as I'll return to the city on the way out of India I'd also prefer to get good quality lenses, even if it means longer wait time!
