i think the postal charges might change depending on the state you are sending the parcel from. while in india i sent 3 parcels, 2 from pushkar in rajasthan and another one from madurai in tamil nadu. the prices for SAL in pushkar were 450-550rs for the first kilo and 140rs thereafter. this service is suposed to take 1 month but the first time it was in spain in 2 weeks and i only sent the other one 2 weeks ago today, fingers crossed. i cant remember the exact prices from madurai, but it was more expensive. i wanted to send it with normal air service but they didnt have the option, so i had to send it with xpress service which takes one week and is very expensive. i was sending quite a few saris for friends and family and it turn out to be a bit of a nightmare because then the parcel was oponed by the spanish customs and as they saw what they thought was silk scarfs nicely in their individual boxes, they thought i was going to make some business and we had to pay 120 euros on top of everything. oh well. from pushkar i used a company that does the stitching of the parcel and they take it to the post office for you for a reasonable 150rs. i ended up paying more at the post office in madurai for the guy to do the same thing, but he was nice and got some chai for us anyway. ![]() |

Hi - I've just sent a parcel from Rishikesh. I asked the guy for customs forms and he said I didn't need them - I pointed out the parcel was for the UK and he still insisted it was ok. I had no choice but to leave it there. I noticed other parcels, one for Japan which didn't have a form either. Every other time I have sent something back I have had to fill out these forms (the record being 6 copies!) so I'm a bit concerned here...Anybody had the same thing? Did their parcel arrive?
Thanks! |
