where in India will you be visiting. Most cities will have stores that carry adapters at a much lower costs than the UK. But is it worth spending the time and effort trying to find it in India? I don't think so. Take them with you. Check out this site for related info: http://kropla.com/electric2.htm

Make one of these before you go & get aplug fitted when you arrive. Attach at least 4ft of cable. Indian sockets are never were you want them ie not near a table or the floor.
Plug extension

You can buy an adapter for Rs.15/- from any electrical store in any town.

If you show your plug to the hotel reception, they'll send a boy out to get one for you.

Silly me... I bought a two prong adapter. I guess that won't work right? Waste of £5!

why, of course it will work if the plugs have the right diameter and distance.
Well, at least if your appliance needs only two pins..

Two pins work fine on double insulated appliances (like laptops, mobile, cameras etc)
The third pin is the earth which isn't a must for these appliances look for a concentric squares on your equipment that indicates the appliance is double insulated!!

The two pin converter is best as the three pin one will not fit in a lot of places. They have two sizes and the european connector will often work in the bottom pair but the pins are the wrong size and so will not be a tight fit. Its kinda drops down and the angle provides the stability and the connection. Try to do this with the plug off, the connection will spark when on and thats not so good for electronics. Met a few with dead PSU for their cameras and they are very hard to replace. Sometimes you have to go outside and switch the room off to do this.

The 3 prong adapter I bought at Radio Shack for $7 was worthless when I got to India.

The 2 prong one I bought on the street for 7 rupees was all I needed for my camera battery charger, cell phone charger, etc.
