Get one with a longish cable. The very cheap ones seem often to be sealed, so you can't replace the flex. Seems to be an Indian habit to put sockets half-way up the wall with the light switches!

True.

Also forgot to mention you could buy a surge protection thing in India (the type with fuses you can change after surge) and use your UK extension lead fotted with Indian plug to give yourself 4/5 protected sockets.

Ah yes, Shere, the 4-way I bought here has this feature.

Yet another thing to buy here rather than wasting that precious baggage allowance on!
