Parks and shoes in Tamil Nadu & Kerala

I'll be spending 3 weeks in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala around 6.-28. March. First time for me, so could someone with experience please answer these questions:

-Nature: If I only have time to do either Bandipur National Park or Periyar Tiger Reserve which one should I choose? Why?
-Shoes: Will I need decent shoes to attend concerts in Chennai and Kathakali shows in Kerala or can I get in in my travel gear and sandals?
-Itinerary: does this seem reasonable & possible in 21 days:
Chennai & surroundings 2 days
Thanjavur 1d
Madurai 2d
Ooty hill station - cross the state border to Bandipur National Park 2d
Mysore 1d
Bangalore 2d
Looong way to Kochi by train along the coast (any places of interest in between?) 1d
Kochi 1d
Varkala 2d
Back to Kochi to catch the return flight 2d

That makes 16 days, leaving room for delays and some additional places along the way. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I 'tick' BP. Tigers are great in spoiling your meed too, ie if you are not able to spot one.

-Shoes: Will I need decent shoes to attend concerts in Chennai and Kathakali shows in Kerala or can I get in in my travel gear and sandals?

You can even go barefeet (will be greatly appreaceated)

If you really are ojapuidenpolttelija and into beaches, two days in Varkala will be
sooooo too little..

Beach is right on.

I prefer Periyaar over Bandipur though.

What train are you planning to take to Kochi (from Bangalore) aloong the coast? 1. does it go along the coast and 2. is it a day train?
