Packing list
Packing list
Hi guys,
I'm off to India in two more sleeps, can't wait!
I just thought I'd share my packing list with everyone. I've got a 50L bag. I've rolled all my clothes and everything fits perfectly with lots of room which is great. It's nice and light. I'm flying into Delhi, heading North first, then down to the South in a few months time. I'm going for 6 months
Wear on plane:
Long light cotton pants
Trekking shoes
T-shirt
Fleece Jumper - it's freezing in Sydney at the moment
Clothes:
Fisherman pants
1 pair shorts
1 three-quarter light cotton pants
PJ's
2 t-shirts
1 light cotton shirt
1 skirt
swimmers
undies, bras, socks (3 of each)
thongs
lightweight sandshoes
Medications:
Altitude sickness, stomach stuff- you know what I mean!, anti-malaria tablets for Goa, iron tablets (not eating meat over there!), fluid replacement sachets, small first aid kit, hand sanitiser, soap
Other things:
peeler
head light torch thing
mossie net
water bottle
sleeping sheet + pillow case
small travel towel
adaptor
phone
Lonely Planet
Camera
padlocks
chain - to attach bag to bus/train when travelling
photocopy of passport, visa and travel insurance
vegemite - love it!
Hope this helps!

Of the places I am going, anti-malaria tablets are only recommended for Goa.
My travel doctor and where I work - a medical journal filled with GPs. I have a map of the hot spots where malaria is. There are also lots of other areas where it is present, but not where I am going, except Goa.

I'm glad to hear you consulted a travel doctor. There are very many different opinions on this, as you no doubt know. Our international travel doctor and infectious diseases specialist at the University here recommends anti-malarials (Malarone) for most of the country except high altitude locations (indeed, on our most recent trip we even took them when we were in the Himalayas since we were soon to return to Delhi and going off and then on Malarone was not an option giving the timing for the meds)
By the way, welcome to IndiaMike - enjoy!

austraveller, I looked thru your list and the thing that I would change is the copy of your passport and visa. I would take 10 copies of passport photo page and visa page of your passport. everywhere you stay will want to take a copy of this and also need it to get an indian sim card. very handy. enjoy your trip, a given really. zamba
looks like a very good list.
I didnt bring a Mossie net but I travelled during Febuary and March.
I also didn't pack my lonely planet because every single traveller I met had a copy of it or rough guide so i borroed theirs
Also, most of the hotels I stayed at had a copy,so I was happy to not lug it around.
The 2 most valuable items I packed were wet wipes and my mp3 player.
One other thing to consider is Tampons if you require them.I saw pads everywhere, and I read on this forum that OB tampons(which have no applicators) were readily available, but I saw none.

yes, that is a very good point.I also required a passport sized photo for my Indian Sim card.I brought this with me from home, but it is possible to get there.I also kept a copy of my documents on a jump drive as well.
You really do not require a mossie net. Almost all hotels will have them. You can have meat from good restaurants avoid the road side stuff. Having a Laptop/Netbook/Tablet with Net is much better than Lonely Planet or Rough Guides. You get better and faster updates.
austraveller9!
All the best and have fun! Maybe we shall meet, although sounds rather tricky... Keep in touch on here or maybe I will PM email address. Can't remember if you sent yours? Anywhoo I'll try and keep you updated where I'm at or going and you never know.
Take care and enjoy x
