Orange Gore-Tex Jacket
Please give me some feedback on wearing bright orange gortex jacket. Really don't want to go a spend more $$ for another. Have been told by someone that was there last year, that the ORange was a real NO NO to fit in.

Oh the Fashion Police are everywhere . . . any idea why yours said it was a No No?
Being a denizen of Varanasi, I see orange EVERYWHERE. It is the color of saddhu's (clothes, that is). To paraphrase an IM saying: "Orange: 20 Million Saddhu's Can't Be Wrong." Wear it. You'll be fine.

Orange is not a color which people wear everyday.. Nor is yellow.
You can wear , however people might turn their head and look at you ) |

Orange Gortex Jacket revised
Previously posted but misconstrued, I am a tourist that doesn't want to be targeted as a tourist, is an ORANGE rainjacket out of the question? Thanks.

Umm, unless you can look, breathe and talk like a resident Indian, you will be identified as a tourist anyway. Orange rainjacket notwithstanding.
Whether you will be targeted (interesting choice of word) is another matter. Though I guess in many usual places you will be. Btw, just looking Indian (if you do) isn't enough. An Indian living abroad can be spotted a mile away by these folks who make a living out of identifying their customers quickly. |

If you're white you're a tourist, whatever colour you wear.

Isn't Orange Goretex the must-have monsoon wear of every saddhu?
This season, at least! Next year they might be flocking to buy shocking pink. At least I hope so... I've bought 50,000 metres of the stuff, and the factory is all geared up ![]()

On second thought,
maybe orange is exactly the color to wear. Don't wanna look like a tourist?, don't wear plaid. But orange . . . you'll be just another saddhu . . .
