You'll have no trouble whatsoever getting batteries through customs I can't imagine why you thought there would be!!
Batteries are available in India the local brands don't last long and have been known to go into meltdown!! on the other side they are VERY cheap!! Duracell (beware of fakes) are also available in India at roughly the same price you would pay anywhere else. reachargables are also available but I don't know how good they are!! Happy Traveling ![]() |

There is no problem if you have batteries in your checked luggage. We have had batteries confiscated from carry-on on internal domestic flights. In theory you get them back at the other end, but trust us, it's not worth the hassle. If you loose them, just replace them.

dont buy everyready
what ever batteries you buy, dont buy Eveready. Everready batteries is associated with the company, Union Carbide, responsible for the industrial disaster at Bhopal, for which they they have refused to pay proper compensation.
'There are people who still won’t buy Everready batteries because of the carnage Union Carbide caused at Bhopal in 1984. ' http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...artid=42603863 'Currently, the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control board has a lawsuit pending (since 1999) against Eveready Industries India Ltd. to hold them responsible for cleanup of the site. I'm still slightly confused and this year I'm bringing a laptop, a digi camera, a minidisc player...and an exposure meter, and a pro camera..
On the one hand I could but the batts in the hold and carry the items and hope the hold luggage doesn't astray. A laptop battery for a Mac will be a pain to replace ! In the past I've not had anything confiscated on International routes and DID take out the battery of my minidisc player on an IA internal. I guess everywhere is different and each airport has a different 'policy'. Is there a difinitive generic list ? |

We had our batteries and matches taken from our hand baggage. At least they couldnt figure out which part of our digicam was the battery so we kept it! However there were other tourists complaining and if I understood correctly they told them the batteries would be returned to them after the flight.

The pretty blue batteries (made in Malaysia) I bought in Mumbai a few days ago for Rs.40 were unable to power up my camera, so cheap batteries are the same the world over, I think. I found a pack of six Duracells for Rs.90 which worked OK tho.

So they actually take batteries that are IN YOUR CAMERA? I have a dSLR, and really, don't want to lose those batteries. I could leave them in my checked luggage, but really, I would like use my camera between airports, and while stopped here and there. |

It's the extra, loose batteries that get taken--and they're not confiscated; you can get them back when you arrive.
I've never had batteries removed from any device, but I have had extra "dry cells" taken out of cabin baggage. I chose not wait for them at the desk when I arrived . . . |

It's cabin baggage from which your batteries may be temporarily removed. They're not confiscated; you can get them back.
Batteries are not removed from checked (in the cargo hold) baggage, which has been scanned and stickered. |

Wow... well, I guess I will have to take a risk... I'll bring my cheaper battery in the camera and hope that should something happen, it's to that one. Those 10D/20D camera battaries are pricey as hell if they're the good ones.
Thanks for the tips. |

I just returned from India where I was on several internal flights. In Bagdogra, on our way to Delhi, they would not let us take any batteries in our carry on luggage. They took the batteries (3A and powerpack type battery), and gave us a receipt. We were able to pick them up at the Indian Air ticket counter when we arrived in Delhi. If the batteries are in your checked luggage it was not a problem. When we flew from Bangalore to Mumbai they did not take the batteries, nor did they on the flight from Kolcutta to Bagdogra.

My battery story..
Merchant is right.
Here is battery story.. When I was getting on the Air India flight from Singapore to Bangalore, I was told that I could not take my batteries on board (in hand luggage) and that I should check it in. this was the last security check before I boarded the plane. The security personnel were implying that I would have to discard it. I made a big stink because the batteries were not a problem on my flight from LA to Singapore. At that time they offered to put it in a pouch and hand it to the flying staff (make sure you observe them doing this and that they write your name on the pouch). When I arrived, I had to follow up with the ground staff, who sent some one to check with the flying staff and came back with my batteries. All of this takes extra time when you are trying to leave the airport.. This happened in 2002. In 2003 I did not have any problems. I figured they realized that it was not worth the hassle. I would strongly recommend rechargeable batteries (NiMH) and a charger. Check the batteries with your luggage if you can, to avoid any hassles. |
