Hi,

Do you know someplace where I can hire out tents (need to accoodate 30 people ) .. so you can work out how many tents are required.

Need to get them without paying a very high deposit.

Appreciate all help.

Hi

You can hire sleeping bags and tents from the following organisations in Bangalore

1. Manav Adventures
2. Nature Admire
3. Wildcraft in Jayanagar
4. Ozone

I don't know the contact numbers and address, but, i am sure, you can get them from the bangalore telephone directory.

Get off ur Ass is an total rip off..
Just pasting the rates quoted by him for renting out a few equipments..

TENTS @ Rs. 150/day
(Caution deposit Rs.3000 refundable)

BACK PACKS @ Rs. 50/day
(Caution deposit Rs. 800 refundable)

SLEEPING BAGS @ Rs. 40/day (Caution deposit Rs. 800 refundable)

SLEEPING MATS @ Rs. 10/day
(Caution deposit Rs. 100 refundable)

I thinks its better to buy own tents than paying Rs 150/day.. For a normal himlayan high altitude expedition, I would need 20 days ex- Bangalore.. so instead of paying Rs 3000 as rent for 20 days, I could very well buy a tent/..

Hey Jyothi,

Thanks for the mail. Checked out that place too.

Checked out Lafuma Tents at Ozone... pretty neat and handy stuff.. But I wanted to see more tents so someone told me to go to Shivajinagar Gujari.. man its a different world out there...

I ended up buying a tent from there.. its one of those government survey types for about 2.5k .. it can accomodate 6 people and has a high enterance... however I dont think it can be used in heavy rains... but will suffice for now..

HI jyothi,
that is being unreasonable about the tent hire costs, i guess.
when i checked for rates with a few people in banglore to hire tents; the rates quoted by them are much higher. about Rs 250/day; i guess Rs 150/day is much lesser.
if ur looking at doing a himalayan trip; it is good idea to buy a tent which u can get at Rs 4500 onwards(good fibreglass pole, lightweight dome tent, 2layered to keep off rain and make it wind proof). even if u want to hire in the mountains it will cost about 250 + they will be A-frame, 8 kilo heavy tent which is not possible to carry.

I have some reference of a guy I met during my recent visit to PUNE. He claims to be best in INDIA- I think he has a point..at least by going through R&D-I think it is worth trying.

http://www.gypsytents.com- is Pune based shop. The company is managed by a group of trekkers & mountaineers to fulfill the need of good quality reliable Trekking, Mountaineering and Camping Equipments and to promote adventure sports.
