Agree the "poison sucker" is useless since a mossies has an immediate access line to your blood.

But please Nick, what is a "piezo-sparky-electric thingy". It seems like something I must have, if only I knew what is was.

Absolutely!!

I went so far as to have a special set made. Fairly expensive, but comfortable and very effective. A local optical shop offered the service. You made an appointment and they took an impression of your ear canals with a hardening flexible goop. A mold is made from the impression and this is used to make the plugs. I also found out why ordinary ear plugs have never worked very well for me... My ear canals are rectangular. As as result of the new plugs was able to get a decent amount of sleep during flights and seemed less jet-lagged. Loud party in the next room, no problem.

I actually wore a full suit for an outdoor New Year's Eve party back in 2001. It was so cold that night (0 degrees) that I wished I had an overcoat, hat, and gloves.

Northern India?

The nighttime temperature here on News Years Eve will be 20-something, or maybe a few degrees less. ie equivalent to a decent UK summer night!

Yes, just outside New Delhi. I was pretty cold pretty often on that trip. We also went to Corbett Park and it was really cold up in the hills. Never thought I'd be cold in India....

Cold is relative... Chennai-ites wear woolly hats when the temperature dips below 30, and I annoy UK hosts by wearing fleece around the house and demanding heating at a so-called-nice spring 16 or so!

But the range of climates in India, which is not that big a land mass compared to the giants, is really remarkable.

I was thinking of buying underwear in India. I bought some undershirts last year and love them. The knit is different but sturdier than the undershirts I've bought here in the US. So I thought I'd buy underwear. I saw guys in their underwear in the Ganges up in Rishikesh and I saw some guys on their balconies in their underwear. They were all wearing briefs. Are boxers available?

I'm only bringing the regular outer-wear shirt that's on my back when I leave for the airport. I thought I'd fill up the suitcase with clothes once I got there. The idea I have right now is to buy every shirt in sight and then sort it out when I get home. I have a friend who's waiting for the trickle down.

For my 10th anniversary gift at work, I got an electric razor. It works fine if you go real, real slow and are not sweating, so I don't know how much I'll use it. I much prefer my safety razor but I don't want to bring it for the amount of water it uses. I'm not going to forego shaving, though, because I look to look neat.

Not that I have seen so far, though shorts are, of course.

I'm still on my Marks & Spencer stock, though I find the elastic dies here. A tailor stitches new elastic!

how much do you really need?

Survived nicely with two sets of clothing.. mix n match, three pairs of socks and two underwear for 5 weeks..could have lasted for a much longer stay...

Laundry every night in the ubiquetous bucket in the shower.. put to dry wherever it would hang...Washed with shampoo..

Airport employee asked on my exit from India, How could you stay so long with such little luggage...

Having seen people with packs toted both in back and in front. was very glad I traveled somewhat minimally..Not as young as I used to be

Could have even a smaller bag, but was carrying souveniers for friends in Indonesia and Thailand, that due to time constraints, never got to visit..After toting across northern India, wound up mailing on my last day in New Delhi...Shoulda mailed em from the states...

You're CLEVER! The best way to travel is really to have barely nothing, and make use of everything. My most priced possessions in India were my EAR PLUGS... Without them, I'd be doomed!

Just got back (August trip) and here is what I needed more of:

bandanas and/or sweat rags (microfiber might work well)
t-shirts (especially light t-shirts)
underwear

I had many 3-shower days.

What I didn't end up using:

long-sleeve dress shirt
tie
dress shoes

What I wish I hadn't worn:

dress trousers. They were heavy winter-weight and I was miserable. I need a pair of light linen long pants.

Most comfortable things to wear: shorts and tropical weight shirts, or Indian clothes (light kurta and pajamas).

And today's special star guest is Ikuru!

Great to see you dropping by and contributing the wonderful picture

I'd travel like that if I was a backpacker. Instead I just pack it into cases and let someone else carry it to and from the car!
