My Packing List - have I missed anything? Too much?
Hi y'all. Just compiled a list of stuff to pack, as I leave for 3 months in India next month. I was hoping experienced people could have a look over the list and let me know if it includes everything/is too much etc... also I want to minimise the size of the rucksack that I buy, I'm hoping 50l or less. Is this reasonable? Thanks in advance!
Clothes:
Equipment:
Medical Kit
Will this be ok in a 50l rucksack? Is it enough? Would a smaller rucksack be ok (really want to travel as light as possible)? And finally, can a womens rucksack be recommended by anyone? I am yet to look on the forums for this though, so it's a minor point as I will no doubt find it. ![]() Also it's worth noting I'm not going any further North than Delhi, and the majority of the time I will be South, between Nov-March |

Looks like a good list to me. You might also want to take passport, house keys, flight tickets and money!
![]() I always take my Swiss army knife, which is useful for opening bottles, peeling fruit etc, a small torch will no doubt prove useful too, LED ones are lightweight and don't drink batteries. bra x 1 - Leave this out if you're male. ![]() mozzie net - Depends on planned level of spending on accommodation, whether you'll sleep with windows open and whether you'll be using plug in mossie insecticide. Immodium / rehydration / ibuprofen etc. is dirt cheap in India, bring just a few doses and buy more as and when needed. Sterile needles - Get your Hep B vaccinations! Shampoo / conditioner / toothpaste / moisturiser / lip balm / soap is readily available in tiny packaging, unbelievably cheap e.g. Rs 5 for small tube of toothpaste, Rs 2 for shampoo, Rs 5 for a mini jar of Ponds cold cream. I always bring loads of mini toiletries back from India to take on travels elsewhere. ![]()

Cool, will add my tickets and passport etc to the list lol
I wanted to bring a mozzie net as I am usually for some reason a massive target for mozzies. 1 week in France, covering up when outside after dusk and keeping bedroom windows shut, saw me gain a good solid 120 bites (yes I counted!!) whereas my fellow holidaygoers got none I even paced the room every night killing any I could find and still they got me. I don't know how!Penknife and a torch are obvious good ideas as well, thanks! I didn't get Hep B as my doctor told me that unless I was going to be in certain conditions/being a healthcare worker there was not much of a risk - I have had typhoid, tetanus, hep a, diptheria, polio, rabies and cholera vaccs. Cheers for the info about toileteries stuff, that should save some space, plus, I'm not keen on lugging round big bottles that will probably open and leave sticky shampoo everywhere!! |
