Got me for a couple of seconds too-thought it was electrical plugs he was talking about. There are universal adaptors for them also, equally useless. Easy to buy for very little once you get to India.

Since cleaning clothes is so easy, could I take the minimum? Wear one outfit ,pack 2? I hate to carry or keep up with luggage.

The only problem with that, groovy grandma, is staying on top of laundry. You'd have to remember to send out your laundry every other day, unless of course you don't mind wearing dirty clothes. If you're staying at mid-range hotels in bigger cities, it's probably not a problem--they usually ask you in the morning if you have laundry. If you're going from place to place a lot, you might have to send laundry right after you check in, or make sure your laundry will be back before you have to leave.

A funny thing I found in India and the hotels laundry service is how much they starch clothes! Haha. I wanted them to wash my favourite pair of jeans and I got them back ironed and starched the hell outta! I was walking around in jeans which looked like suits pants 'cause they were ironed so well. I love having heaps of clothes when travelling, but yeah getting them cleaned is the problem sometimes.

Hands down the stupidest thing I brought with me was makeup LOL! Even the Indian fashion magazines tell you not to bother. Close seconds were a ceramic core water filter (even tiny villages sell bottled or filtered water) and heavy boots (tho now it's late November in Himachal I wish I still had mine)

OTOH, the most surprisingly useful item I brought with me was a couple of those Platypus water sacks. Not so much for water (though it's handy to have a water bottle you can roll up and put in your pocket when empty) but because you can freeze them to make cold packs or put hot water in them for hot compresses for sore muscles. I use 'em a lot (I'm a klutz) and people are forever borrowing them for this purpose. The big 2 litre one especially makes a great hot water bottle! They're right up there with my Leatherman tool and flashlight as things I wouldn't leave home without!

Too Funny! Actually, my husband and I traveled very minimally with one medium size suitcase together and 1 small carryone besides my purse and his briefcase. Only once did I send a few things out to the laundry. I just hate to have to keep up with lots of luggage. Our Indian friends still marvel how we did it with one suitcase together! It can be done!

Wierd! I didn't post about travelers cheques! We took cash and 3 credit cards which we ok'd with our back before traveling. They did not work at the one ATM that we used. I have since learned that you have the same network. We did exchange cash at a 5 star hotel and got a very good rate instead of the Thomas Cook rate we got at the airport!

Whwn I go to India in a couple of weeks, I intend to take a hand held GPS (and my laptop, of course). I will also be taking a AA battery charger (which I assume can plug into a cigarette lighter in a car --12 volt)

I may regret this--I'll report back when I return.

Anyone have any thoughs on this??
