Mossie Nets
Is it necessary to pack a mossie net if you are staying in 3 star or above hotels?

Probably not but it depends where you're going. They'll be cheaper when you get there anyway. Just bite them first

I suppose I am taking the typical route but I am assuming that it is so popular for a reason . .

Triangulation, Strangulation
Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan. Many first-time travelers I have met in India have told me they wished they saved Delhi, Agra, and Rajasthan for the end of their India trip. After doing that triangle first they realized that they had spent one month's worth of money in one week. Their per diem spending was 4 times higher in the triangle than elsewhere in India. They regretted that they had gone to "Beverly Hills" and "Palm Springs" first.
I recall taking a 6 hour bus trip from Agra to Jaipur in January 1987. In Jaipur I met tourists who had flown from Delhi to Agra after a 7 hour delay at the Delhi airport. My bus was faster than their plane! I picked a hotel in Jaipur based on my guide book's claim that it had a swimming pool. The pool was there, but it had no water! Don't jump off the diving board without looking! My recommendation for a first-time visitor's first stop in India is McLeod Ganj. That would be seasonally dependent. September-November and March-May would be "the season." Disclaimer: I have been to McLeod Ganj twice, both visits were during the 2nd week of October. Currently there is another thread concerning places to avoid in India. There is NOT a place that I have been to in India what I would NOT go to again. Delhi, Agra, and Rajasthan have plenty of sights to see. In Rajasthan I visited Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaissalmer. I have NOT been to Pushkar. A friend of mine got cerebral malaria there in October 1994. A rare rain pattern provided a breeding ground for some nasty mosquitos. That cerebral malaria outbreak is an exception, not the rule. |

I would take it. Nobody guaranties the hotels will have (a good) one for you or that the rooms will be mosquitoes-free. I have a net that folds tightly into a small sack and is very light so no bother too carry at all.

We too, have only 12 or so days in India and are planning the Hell's Tiangle! We are actually on a quick shopping trip for our import store. This is the 1st time to India.
Do the rooms in most guesthouses, hotels, etc. have hooks to hang the mossie nets on? Should we bring nails, or pins, or something like that? Ocean

I've never seen anything for hanging a net --- except a couple of hotels with 'antique ' furniture style that have '4-poster' beds that a net could be hung over.
On the contrary, often there is a large ceiling fan just over the bed.
