Considering the frequency of choices, not to use a mosquito net, makes it understandable to me why a lot of people consider Malaria prevention pills. We live in a world with all kinds of options.

I wish mosquito nets meant never being bitten!
They don't. But at least when you awake you can attempt some sort of evasive or destructive action against the mossies. When you're asleep you're a sitting duck. If you see what I mean ![]()

Watkins
I have been using Watkins 28% deet (bought in Canada), but the problem is that the mossies tend to find that small patch on the back of your foot that you missed, etc.
Long sleeves and long pants help as well, except when they are mega kerala mosquitos that bite THROUGH the pants!!! From what I've heard Jungle Formula is the best (bought in UK). But what Nick said is right, you will get bitten no matter what, even with a net it's possible!! you will all get some bites and be just fine!!!! taking anti malarials also helps to soothe the worries....

According to "the recommendations" (ie the various sites carrying details and results of mossie repellent tests) you need 50% to give enough hours protection to see you through the night.
Ododmos, a popular local make, is only 12%, but cheap and easily obtainable: can be used through the day. I suspect that all that matters is the percentage: I don't think any given make is any better than another in this respect, but not all commercial repellants are DEET-based. Do remember to take the anti-histamine insect-bite cream! |
