I guess if you weren't a parent it would seem like a good idea - a separate bedroom of course would be lovely, but that doesn't seem to exist. Sometimes there are suites as well as double rooms on offer, but when I enquire about whether they have an extra room or sleeping area I can't seem to get a straight answer.

But not a whole separate hotel room with no connection between the 2!!!!! I certainly wouldn't get any sleep worrying about him. Maybe if he was 15 not 12, or even if there were 2 kids together, poor little mite - imagine being all alone in a scary Indian hotel room with things going bump in the night! AND NO - before you jump in there - we obviously won't be the things going bump in the night!!!!!!!!

First time I've heard a TWELVE year old being called that! Don't let him read it - you'll give him a complex.

FWIW we often used separate rooms (but I have 3 kids); mostly adjoining though. And where not, there would be an adult in each room.

Gosh.

I had my own hotel room when I was five.

After that my parents bought a touring caravan --- which meant an end to privacy, although the bonus of towing one's own home around and setting up in fields made up for it.

But I would have been very upset to have to share a hotel room with my parents, or anyone else.

Takes all sorts!

Me too - my kids would have found it abhorrent, way before they reached the (poor little mite) age of 12.

Mossie coil you burn do work but also smell and gave my friend a headache everytime one was lit.

Jungle Formula (spray/cream) worked a treat for us. Never got bit when we wore it but when we didn't we got eaten alive!
Hiya
Did you buy your Jungle Formula frmo india

As per the information provided Nick, Odomos has 12 % deet, which is good for only couple of hours...for something to last the entire night the percentage should be close to 50..if I remember it correctly..

In the sense that whiskey is really strong compared to beer, yes, it is.

But you use less.

50% DEET should get you through the night: the strength is the factor that determines how long the effects last.

No, it won't poison you. It would be nice to live a life free of chemicals, but this one seems fairly OK, at least for short-term use of a few weeks.

Mosquito bites bring the risk of many diseases, not just malaria, and much discomfort. Even infection of the bite itself, particularly for children who won't stop scratching.

MOSQUITO MYTHS (PLEASE NOTE):

They don't like Air Conditioning... They love airconditioning. I guess that, like us, they like to cool down. In my old house the AC used to blow on the net at the end of the bed. The mossies would sit there enjoying it.

They don't like fans... same thing applies. They do not like a fan full on, but then I can't sleep in a gale either!

They only bite at dusk and dawn... Different species bite in the day or in the night. Disturb the night-time ones any time and they'll bite. Dusk is a bad time, I'm afraid I'm not often about at dawn! I get most of my bites between 10pm and 2am when, like me, they seem to wake up and get a burst of energy!

very true Nick..for me its more of a matter of comfort...I like to have a sound night's sleep...

but thankfully for my family and of most of the people I know..All Out and its substitutes do the trick...

we have found them to be most effective and comfortable, above creams, coils, mats etc..

Let your blanket/sheet periphery & jammy(assuming .... ) cuffs take the brunt of the chemical onslaught that is deet. Couple this with the room fan whirring & dissipating your telltale sensory signs of existence and you ought to have a bite-free & chemical-free sleep.

A few years ago i bought some 100% deet ,and i had no problem from mosquito's at all,but i did lose all of the paint of the top of my camera and i believe a few hairs on the front of my scalp were i would wipe my forehead .My receding hair
line is therfore not due to age but the overuse of deet , which sounds much better

I tried 100% DEET one time, and it was so strong, I believe it could remove paint. I have a table to refinish -- think I'll try it on that!

It will dissolve plastic, I understand.

I think that 100% is for sleeping outdoors in a rainforest. 50% should be ample protection for India.
