Mosquito Net Confusion
I'm sorry if this question seems really dumb but:
I was mosquito net shopping yesterday and I realize that all nets hang from the ceiling. Does this mean that all hotels have hooks hanging over the bed for you to hang them? Do I need to bring my own hanging device? What if the ceiling is too high? I feel like I'm missing something!?! A mosquito net seems like an important thing to bring, but before I buy yet another "little tavel item" (quick dry towel, sleepsheet, travel pillow) which will take up room in my bag, I want to make sure I understand the whole concept. This newbie thanks all of you for your feedback ![]()

would cost you around Rs. 50 only and would be good for atleast all nights of a month... Infact if you want to be extra cautious you can have two of them.. Obviously I am assuming that you are not going camping..and would stay at a place with electricity connection... ![]() |

No camping for me
Thanks for the tip! No, I don't intend to go camping at all. I am equally confused as to what mosquito repellant to use, but I will take your suggeston for All Out and make sure to apply some before bed each night.
I will be in Delhi/Rajasthan in September when i think there will still be some monsoon remnants and therefore mosquitos, which is why I want to be sure of all this. |

Check the bottom of this page for other threads with good tips on Mossie Nets. There are different styles that require less engineering but if you do purchase the standard defacto net then there are tips on size/length of rope required to best secure it.

Not to be 'applied'! ... It's a machine (with liquid, which is heated) that you plug in. You can get similar here in UK, and I bet Montreal has some somewhere! But they'll be cheaper in India, for sure.

However, I would advice to use a repellent cream as I hate the smell of All Out.

Then go with a good cream. Or All Out and a cream.

Get a cream or spray that contains (at least) 50% DEET. Mossies don't like that stuff at all.

intense
Wow, these are intense!! Rather expensive, no? Do people seriously set up these nets as displayed in the photos when they are staying in hotels??
I still don't have an answer to my initial question....if I do purchase the net which hangs from the ceiling...do i need to purchase gear to hang it? Rope was mentioned, but are there other ways? I'm sorry if I seem so clueless, it's my first time going to a country where I need to take these kinds of precautions.... |
