I had some pockets with a Velcros seal sewed onto the inside of my traveling pants.

I'd say your family is pretty lucky in their choice of husband/father...

wear a money /documents pouch against your skin under your garments, Us ethe bum bag /money bag as a decoy and keep lose change for the day in it. Wearing a long kameez or kurta usually covers the bumbag's tell tale protruberance which makes miscreants' eyes light up.

OK, I saw this active again and just thought I'd follow up. I've been using my handy dandy money belt pretty much only for overnight train travel, and at certain times in cities and really crowded tourist spots, for instance when I have to go to the ATM.

Otherwise I've just had the money belt hidden in a super-secret compartment in my day bag (a compartment which would not be revealed if the bag were slashed). Anytime I think I'm at risk of my daypack being all out snatched, I make sure I'm wearing the belt.

Having my own relatively tough combination lock for my room really put my mind at ease in Goa when I wanted to go for a swim without worrying about my cash, cards, and passport.

The old fashioned Nappy pins worked. We have just got back from a month in India, without any problems.

We had a cotton money belt which we attached to our under garments with nappy pins, i might add they have a safty lock on them, so no damage done to ones self . In these we carried passports, credit cards, excess money etc. In our back packs we carried a purse with little money in, enough to get us to our next destination. When you need to go to the loo just undo the money belt from the buckle and leave it still pinned to the under garments, that way it won't fall down the hole in the floor Bingo you can't go wrong

I hate the neck pouch in hot weather, and the waist one is even worse.

I swear by this - leg wallet - I wore it successfully in Bahia, Brasil during carnival when you get hilariously pick pocketed every 30 seconds. It's like nylon stretchy, like Bra material I guess. Since I don't wear shorts when traveling anymore this is ideal.

The only solution. Take an extra one while you wash the first on once in a while....

I have had 3 simultaneously - one around the waist; one around the neck and another that went inside my pants and was clipped onto my belt loop.

The best of these was the one that went inside my jeans and was clipped to the belt loop. It was almost invisible (ie. the loops blended in colour); it didn't bulge as the other two did and it held a sufficient quantity of money.

Unfortunately, I loaned this to a friend who went to SE Asia and he never returned it to me .

I intend to purchase another one before I head out at the end of this year.

And, I also concur with the recommendation to purchase another one to act as a "decoy" unit. Keep a small amount of cash in there and if it goes, it's a small loss.

Cheers
Zoltan

I've always had good luck with the around-the-neck pouches. Sure, they're obvious, but then again it's obvious that nearly every foreigner is carrying some cash around. I keep my passport wrapped in a small plastic bag inside of the pouch as it otherwise would get drenched with sweat. Never had a problem with this system in over 20 years.

Hope this isn't a really stupid question. Methinks it may be as I haven't seen it yet (although I haven't finished browsing the entire forum )

Obviously the money belt with my passport and valuables will be with me all the time. What do I do if I want to go in the sea? Clearly I can't leave it on the beach. In my room with my suitcase? don't feel happy about that...

Any ideas?
thanks

You can always leave it at the reception in the Hotel Safe/Locker.
